8 Ball Section

We play every Thursday
night. Names in please by 7.15pm
Business House has started each Monday & Tuesday nights
and all is going well. We have 9 teams this year, as
one team pulled out.
We have
a core of regulars who play each Thursday night, but if
anyone is interested in playing, names in by 7.15pm
please.
We’re
also looking at maybe making a rule change as on or two
people are not happy that there is NO
penalty for a foul shot. If you have any suggestions
Mike or Sherrill would like to hear from you. (It
has been suggested a free handle for each foul shot!!!)
Also in
mid July there is a Friendship Tournament played over 2
days at Waihi Beach Memorial R.S.A Club. It is a Pairs
Tournament and Ball In Hand Rule applies. Entry
form will be on the notice board nearer the time.

Club
Night continues on Thursday evenings starting at
7:00pm. Anyone wishing to join in is welcome. All it
costs is membership of the snooker section and $3.00
towards prizes on the night.
Our
League Team is struggling to compete with the other
teams in a strong competition. The Round Robin finishes
soon before teams are placed in three divisions for the
play offs.
Members
are reminded that the $5.00 subscription is now
overdue. Anyone still to pay, please do so.
We are
hosting a visit from the Tokoroa Club on Sunday May 9th.
We are expecting 8-10 players from our Southern
neighbours and a similar number from Cambridge. It
should be a successful day.
The
Honesty Box system continues to bring in welcome
income. Since its inception in September 2009 we have
banked over $500.00, this helps when we have to recloth
table, an expensive exercise costing over $1000.00 per
table. All contributions help.
In the
next few weeks we will set dates for the first of our
club competitions. This year we will play the handicap
singles and drawn pairs on two Sundays.
Members
are reminded to read the notice board in the Snooker
Room for up to date news. I will try to keep this
updated regularly.
The
World Snooker Championships has been won by Neil
Robertson of Australia at the Crucible Theatre in
Sheffield. He beat Graeme Dott of Scotland 18-13 in the
final. This is the first time for 30 years the title
has not been held by the UK, since Canada’s Cliff
Thorburn won. Robertson is the second Australian to
lift the title after Horace Lindrum’s victory in 1952.

Thank you to the 10% of club members who
attended the AGM. It was probably the shortest AGM in
this clubs history, but we still think we achieved
results that day. As stated in my AGM report only (8)
committee members were nominated and no positions were
opposed and we think that’s pretty slack for a club of
this size. Congratulations to our previous committee,
who stepped forward for another year, much appreciated
and thanks to the four newbie’s for your time and
effort. Good luck to you all.
Thanks to all the Sub Clubs for your
support, they have recently had their bi-monthly meeting
and the Darts Adjunct have officially attended their
first meeting.
Weekly Raffles - Sub clubs are selling
these every Friday night between 5.30 to 7.30pm at the
Learner by the Front Door Entry. Please support the
Mother Club by purchasing a ticket or the “Winners take
All”, these are becoming quite popular now.
A new roster to support each adjunct has
been posted to include the new committee members
If you
have any “Suggestions” submit them to the Secretary
Manager via the suggestion box. We have many other fun
events coming up throughout the year and we are working
away at the entertainment suggestions. There are various
maintenance jobs on the burners and they will be dealt
with as funds become available.

So far,
this year, we have enjoyed some good rounds and the
weather has been kind to us.
First to
kick off the year was the ClubsNZ North Island Ladies
Golf Teams Championship, hosted by Ohope. Cambridge
was represented by - Bev Maguren, Kathy Hjorth and
Pauline Shields.
We have
visited Horsham Downs, Te Kowhai, Morrinsville and
Huntly courses.
The
attendance at some of the outings have been rather poor,
last month saw a good turnout. Well done guys.
Our annual interclub with Hamilton saw
only four players from Cambridge and Hamilton's numbers
were down also but it didn't stop Hamilton from winning
the trophy by three points. Kevin wasn't very keen on
handing over the trophy, that he had on display at his
home for a year. Never mind Kevin, there is always next
year.
Our
programme from May to September is..16 May Hukanui, 20
June Matamata, 18 July Tokoroa, 15 August Waitarimu and
5 September Cambridge.
If anyone
is interested in joining our small group of golfers, you
don't have to be a member of a golf club, please feel
free to contact either of the above.
